Louis Michel in Rwanda, Burundi and the DRC next week.

European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel, will visit Rwanda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo for high level visits.

When: Tuesday 10th March (Rwanda and Burundi) and Wednesday 11th March 2009 (DRC).

Why: This visit will allow Commisisoner Michel to hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of the three countries as well as with international officials following joint military operations in the region to tackle Hutu rebels. He will use this visit to discuss latest EU co-operation with each of the countries as well as to raise the issue of the The Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (CEPGL) as a forum to foster greater economic regional integration. It is expected that Commisisoner Michel will meet President Nkurunziza, President Kabila, the Rwandan Foreign Minister Mrs. Rosemary Museminali and UNSGSR Alan Doss.
